Description
A very old silver plated creamer from the Portland Union Station in Maine. It is clearly marked P.U.R STATION with both a Gorham and J.A. Merrill & Company hallmarks. The Portland Union Station was built in 1888 and the dining room was important because the Boston & Maine and Maine Central Railroads did not have dining car service until 1906. That meant that even through cars were interrupted for locomotive exchanges in Portland. Gorham is a well known maker and J. A. Merrill & Co was a Portland, Maine silver supplier.
The creamer meaures 6" wide stem to stern and it is about 2 3/4" tall. There is no damage and for its age, it is in great shape.
