Description
A pair of Chinese cinnabar vases dating from the 19th century. The vases have quatrefoil mouths and bases, and 4 frames with figures in a landscape around the body. The body has lotuses, bats, pairs of lucky coins, flowers, and fruit carved around the frames. Additionally there is a Shou medallion border at the base of the neck, a stylized banana leaf border at the mouth, neck, and base, and a Greek key border at the foot. The neck is carved with bats, Buddhist knots, and lotuses.
Dimensions are: each measures 15 1/2 inches tall X 8 inches wide, 39.4 cm X 20.3 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There are some very small chips in one of the vases.
Provenance: From a Southern California collection.
