Wilhelm von Gloeden (German, 1856-1931). Photograph titled "The Cloister of Monreale, Palermo," 1903, depicting a young man seated with a vase amongst the cloisters at the Cattedrale di Monreale in Palermo, Italy. Albumen print. Inscribed "EGW 2462 / 18-7-913" in pencil along the verso. Von Gloeden is best known for his photographic works portraying young men in classical poses and settings reminiscent of Greek or Italian antiquity.
