Description
A very large and intricate field used carved wooden Fish mask / marionette that was carried in parades and festivals known as the Sogo Ba masquerade. Masks such as these were used during performance of Dance troops of young men, members of local youth groups. The sing, dance, drum, manipulate puppets or dance masks in creating performances called Sogo Ba. The mask measures 43 inches long and stands 23 inches tall on its professional custom display stand. Bozo peoples, Mali, Africa. Provenance: Ex Robert Banks collection, Maryland.
Condition
fair, well used, some of the strings to operate the fins and tail no longer work.
