Description
This is an antique Japanese mino rice straw rain or snow coat from the late Meiji era (c.1900). This coat is handwoven from rice straw and was worn by farmers in their daily outdoor work duties in bad weather. Similar coats were often worn by the Samurai. It was worn by tying the upper strap around the neck and the lower around the waist. The dimensions are approximately 26 inches wide, 52 inches long. Considering its age and the fact that this was a working garment, the coat is in remarkable condition.
