Antique Korean Tiger Painting on Old Mulberry Paper. Korean tiger paintings are unique in their portrayal of friendly guardian tigers accompanied by the magpie messenger bringing good tidings under the pine tree, a favorite Korean symbol of longevity. These paintings were hung in the home to protect and bless the home. This combination of tiger, magpie, and pine tree (hojakdo) was considered especially lucky and was a popular New Year's gift.
