Bi-Color 18KT Gold, Yellow Sapphire, and Diamond Cocktail Ring, Buccellati
circa 1970s, the gold mount with finely textured detailing centering on a a prong set oval cut yellow sapphire (14.94 x 10.96 x 10.45 mm) weighing approximately 14.21 carats and with single cut round diamonds bead set to the "turban" surround weighing approximately 1.25 total carats (E-G color, VS clarity), accented to profile with full cut round green diamonds weighing approximately 1.44 total carats (Green color, VS clarity) and with a bi-color gold shank, engraved Buccellati / 750 / Italy and numbered 13920. 9.1 dwt, 27.4 x 22.6 mm; Ring size 6.5
Sapphire displays an orangish yellow hue, medium tone, and moderately strong to strong saturation.
Buccellati was founded in 1919 by Mario Buccellati and has since been known for its craftsmanship and intricate gold work. This piece showcases the use of the traforato technique, which is the use of pierced gold with detailed engraving to resemble fine fabric or lace while holding gems. In this example, the traforato surrounds the center stone and holds the diamond accents.
