Description
Cabinet Card Photo.
This debonair man with the distinguished goatee, holding his cane in a stylish manner, appeared in Yale University albums in the 1880 to 1885 era. Note his matching pinstripe vest and pants, and his fashionable straw hat upside down. One suspects he's both a vendor and performer of sorts, although Yale University, at the time, hired quite a few African American janitors and handymen.
On front, at bottom of mount: "PACH BRO'S. 841 B'WAY, N. Y." Pach Bros. was an elite photographic firm who produced many of the Yale albums in the late 19th century. On back, handwritten in pencil: "1880" and "Yale."
