Description
Hand pieced and hand stitched blocks containing stars and 9 patch blocks with cutouts for a poster bed.
The quilt is totally hand pieced and hand quilted with cylinder prints from the 1820's and earlier. This wonderful example contains gorgeous early fabrics, mostly in reds, browns, and whites. No backing, and edges are not turned in.
Stitching throughout at 8 to 11 stitches per inch. The stitches are precise and consistent.
APPROXIAMTE MEASUREMENTS
This quilt measures a generous enormous 121" width x 117-1/2'' length. The cutout starts approx., 90" from top with a 30-1/2" cutout, and continues downward for 31"and measures 61" at base of cutout.
CONDITION
In very good unwashed condition, some very light water marks, and no odors. No fading that I could find. Many very small pin holes scattered about. Some small oxidation storage spots here and there, not many. Seam separation on one of the cutouts. An easy fix.
Among the choicest of old time variety of different print designs with cut corners for a poster bed. This quilt spread is a graphic and visual vintage beauty.
This quilt is a wonderful sewn together work of art. Quilter put a lot of thought into the selections of materials to give the quilt a great visual look.
A great addition to one's collection and a hard to find quilt from this time period that has survived.
