Description
Possibly Edmé Samson et Cie, Second Half Nineteenth Century. The cover painted in enamels with a Continental armorial flanked by lion and horse supporters, surrounded by bianco-sopra-bianco scrolls and flowers in green and red enamels, the sides with matching flowers and scrolls, within gilt spearhead borders, painted in iron-red enamel "France/ Handpainted" above a pseudo Chinese seal mark. 4.25 x 2.75 x 2 inches. Lid mount is loose.
Literature: The firm Edme Samson et Cie was well-known for producing well-executed copies of eighteenth century porcelain and pottery from all the well known European factories, as well as Chinese export porcelain.
