Henry Lee III (1756-1818) was the ninth Governor of Virginia and father of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. His valuable service and guerrilla warfare tactics as a cavalry officer during the American Revolution earned him the nickname "Light-Horse Harry". He served as a representative for Virginia in Congress and famously gave a stirring eulogy for George Washington at the President's funeral on December 26, 1799. Lee retired from public service in 1801 and moved his family to Stratford Hall in Westmoreland County, Virginia. The family finally moved to Alexandria, VA in 1810.
