Francis "Smilby" Wilford-Smith Pen & Watercolor Artwork Done for Playboy
Francis Wilford-Smith original artwork done for "Playboy" circa 1970s, signed "Smilby". Composed in pen and watercolor,11" x 15". Artwork is captioned at bottom left, in pencil, "was it third-rate for you too?" and is marked "ROUGH" in red at bottom right. Wilford-Smith's address label on verso. Mild wear, overall in very good plus condition.
Francis Wilford-Smith (1927-2009) was a British cartoonist, graphic artist, and producer and archivist of blues music. As a cartoonist, he used the pseudonym "Smilby", a contraction of his surname with his wife's maiden name.
