AUTHENTIC EGYPTIAN MUMMY HAND
This remarkable artifact is the actual hand from a human Egyptian mummy. Although its provenance is now lost, its authenticity is in no doubt, and the excellence of its preservation suggests a date somewhere between the New Kingdom and the Ptolemaic Era. Mummies have been a feature of civilizations throughout the world for centuries, from Peru to China, but those from Egypt have done most to capture the popular imagination. The blackened skin displays a terrifically wrinkled and shrunken appearance, with the linen covering retained on the top half, the third finger neatly detached at the joint, and with excellent detail to the wrist bone. It measures 6 1/2 inches long.
