A LARGE CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE "YANG FAMILY GENERALS" PORCELAIN FISH BOWL, QING DYNASTY (1663-1911), the fine colorfully enameled tapering bud form body, with a gently flattened and everted round rim, above a collar of fluttering butterflies amidst blossoming sprays interspersed with shaped ruyi reserves of peach and pomegranate clusters, over sides centering a scene of nicely detailed Yang family widows on horseback racing towards an arched trellis opening of a garden trellis wall, cheered on by three noblemen watching from a pavilion terrace, reversing to a rocky grove of ancient pines beneath a sky of stylized scrolling clouds, ending on a base ringed with lappet panels enclosing suspended peaches. Height: 16 1/4" Diameter: 18 1/2" Note: The scene depicted here is possibly that taken from a popular story of the Yang Family during the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960-1127). This family was well known for its devotion to the Emperor and successful military abilities in staving off the northern Khan Tartan invasion attempts of China. This came at a great cost eventually leading to the loss of most of the Yang family's men. As an act of revenge for the slaying of their husbands, these widows took up arms and defended their homeland. This view shows them practicing equestrian abilities before heading off to battle.
