A LOUIS PHILIPPE GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE "JEANNE D'ARC" MANTLE CLOCK, BY BERTOUD, VENDIER, 1840s, modeled as the French heroine Joan of Arc astride a silvered bronze prancing horse, wearing a plumed helmet above a steady assured expression and battle armor while holding a short sword, on stylized rockwork centering a circular dial with a twist reeded and beaded bezel, enclosing a silvered bronze dial with black Roman chapters and blued steel Breguet hands over twin key escapements inscribed "Bertoud a Vendier," on a rectangular base with applied trim of palm leaf tips framing scrolling heart details within stylized acanthus corners, over a conforming flat plinth and skirt centering an acanthus leaf pendant issuing stalks ending in palm fronds raised on curling tendril feet, verso the brass clockworks stamped "8 / Jouilion / 327."
