Description
Garry Lewis, Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio, ca. 1820-1830, poplar. Attached bonnet has folksy scalloped sides and crest, case with cove molding has chamfered edges and high cut out feet and apron. Wooden works and face with original paint marked "G. Lewis". Old red/orange stain. Face has some overpaint and replaced hands. Refinished, scrollwork on the hood replaced, hood and movement now attached to the case with screws, missing the backboard behind the hood. No weights, key. 84.5"h. Sold at Garth's lot 516, November, 2008.Garry Lewis (b. 1800), the brother of clockmakers Lamber and Wheeler Lewis, appears to have mostly sold clocks made by others, and Spittler et al (p. 188) reference 30-hour wooden tall clocks signed, as this one is, "G. Lewis".
