BIOGRAPHY:
A Canadian painter and muralist, Kenneth Hensley Holmden was born in Ottawa and died in Montreal where he had lived since the mid 1920s. He exhibited frequently with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. An example of his work is in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada.His mediums were oil paint, watercolor and fresco. His subjects included landscapes, figures, genre, oriental subjects, historical events and fantasy. His styles included Art Deco, Impressionism, Fauvism and Realism.He studied under Henry Harold Vickers in Ottawa (1908); under J.W. Beatty in Toronto (1920); and was an assistant to Adam Sherriff Scott in Montreal (1924 - 1930).He served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force (infantry) in England and France during World War I (1915 - 1918). He was a member of the Arts Club, Montreal (1927) and of the Pen and Pencil Club, Montreal (1957, President 1960 - 1962).He exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts from 1929 to 1947 and with the Art Association of Montreal (now Montreal Museum of Fine Arts) from 1933 to 1950.
