Description
Hyman Bloom
Massachusetts, New Hampshire,1913-2009
Depicts on older man with a hooked nose glancing to the side. Bloom studied with Denman Waldo Ross and Harold Zimmerman, finding inspiration in the rotting figures of Christ depicted by Hans Holbein in The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb, and Matthias Grunewald's Isenheim Altarpiece, while also visiting the morgue at Kenmore Hospital in Boston. His works can now be found at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Smith College Museum of Art among others.

From the collection of a Foxborough, Massachusetts estate. Drawing was purchased from the Boris Mirski Gallery, Boston.
Monogrammed "HB" lower right, label marked "Hyman Bloom Clown" on verso.
Condition
Some light toning and rippling around edges but no visible signed of moisture damage, areas with mold beneath glass and to matting but does not appear to be on drawing, frame and glass with some wear, otherwise good condition.
