Title: Collection of over 450 original photographs which belonged to and most apparently taken by philosopher/ethnologist Charles Muses
Place Published: Mexico

Date Published: c.1955

Various sizes, from approx. 2¼x3¼" to 5x7". About 200 are duplicates. Most are b&w, with about 95 in color, 34 or so of those being duplicates. Housed loose in two albums with plastic sleeves.

Very interesting and revealing selection of photographs, presumably taken by the mathematician and philosopher Charles Muses, who studied ancient cultures (to such a degree that he was once arrested for removing artifacts from Egypt). He spent a good deal time in Mexico, and the present photographs reflect his interests and ethnological studies. The locations captured center around the indigenous cultures of Mexico, including Tikal, Palenque, Chichen Itza, Monte Alban and Teotihuacan. While the majority of the photographs are of temples, sculptures and carvings, there are also a few of people, including Muses himself.
