Description
Kazak, ty s kem? S name ili s nimi? [Cossack, Which Side Are You On, Ours or Theirs?], a poster by Dmitry Moor (Dmitry Orlov, 1883-1946, Meritorious Art Worker of the Russian Federation). Published by Litizdat PUR, Moscow, 1920, 68.5 x 53.5 cm.
This poster was likely produced when the White Expeditionary Force led by General Ulagayev crossed the Sea of Azov and started an advance on Krasnodar, in the hope that Kuban Cossacks would again raise against the Bolsheviks (as they had in 1919). This time, Kuban Cossacks stood neutral, and the Expeditionary Force retreated back to Crimea.
A popular poster. In addition to monographs dealing exclusively with Soviet posters, it found its way to more general books on Russian revolutionary art (see, for example, Real'nost' Utopii, by Vashik and Baburova).
