Description
This lot consists of an unframed oil painting on canvas, done in the surrealist style of Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904-1989). A gripping and poignant piece. Unframed measurements approximately 15.5" x 23.5".
Salvador Dali was born May 11, 1904 in Figueres, Spain. From an early age, Dali was encouraged to practice his art and would eventually go on to study at an academy in Madrid. In the 1920s, Dali went to Paris and began to associate with the likes of Picasso, Magritte, and Miro. This critical juncture would give way to the birth of Dali's first Surrealist phase. However, with the rise of fascist leader Francisco Franco in Spain, Dali's was eventually forced to leave the Surrealist movement, and he continued to create on his own terms for the duration of his life. Dali was an imaginative, visionary force of the 20th century, defining surrealist and modern art for generations to come.
