Description
Clyde Singer (American/Ohio, 1908-1999) graphite on paper drawing or sketch depicting baseball players in various states of pitching, catching, hitting, officiating, and at the ready. Signed at lower right in graphite, "C Singer 9/56." Housed and matted under glass in a giltwood frame with gilt fillet. Sight: 17 1/2" H x 23" W. Framed: 32 7/8" H x 37 7/8" W. Biography: Clyde Singer was known for his regionalist oil and watercolor paintings. He studied at the art school at the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts (later the Columbus Museum of Art) and was awarded a scholarship to the Art Students League in New York. He later worked and taught at the Butler Institute of American Art. Singer was exhibited in major exhibitions at the Chicago Art Institute, the Whitney Museum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the National Academy of Design. Condition
Overall very good condition with minute hole in paper in the upper right quadrant. Frame with slight loss of gilt, largest 1/4" H x 1/8" W, and minor damage to backing paper. Not examined outside of frame.
