Item Details
Description
Huge sculpture by Steve Zaluski, titled The Golden Seed, signed by the artist on the base and dated 2009
Approximately 7'2" wide and 8' tall

This sculpture was removed from the backyard of a townhouse on 74th street, between Madison and Fifth avenue on the upper east side. The owner passed away and the surviving spouse put the townhouse on the market. David Killen Gallery reached the sculptor, Steve Zaluski, who was kind enough to reveal that the sculpture was originally created as a private commission for the location. A photo of the sculpture at the original location is the second photo on the left.

The sculptor, Steve Zaluski, was kind enough to tell David Killen Gallery that the original title was 'The Golden Seed'. We appreciate all of the help and insight that Steve Zaluski was able to give the gallery, including how to assemble and disassemble the work, we are grateful to him.

Davids notes: if you are thinking of putting this on your property, its not as expensive or scary a proposition as it looks. The pieces are aluminum, and can easily be carried by two or three people of average strength. It it is pegged together, and can be quickly disassembled or assembled with a ladder. The force of gravity keeps it together. The parts turn by pushing, if you want to move them, but probably do not turn in the average wind, but would turn slightly in a strong powerful storm wind. I would not recommend shipping, but a man with a van, a trucker, of which the gallery knows many of these type people. Estimated delivery to parts of the Northeast, like Connecticut, Mass or Vermont, probably 750 to 1500 depending on the distance.

Steve Zaluski
(Source: zaluskisculpturestudios.com) Steve Zaluski was born and raised on Long Island and graduated from Stony Brook University, New York. He studied in engineering, psychology and received his bachelors in Liberal Arts. Later, he studied in education and sculpture at Stony Brook University.

He was a self-employed contractor and sculptor, worked on TV commercials, building sets and props, helped build homes, renovated bars and restaurants. He was also part owner of a live music wine and cheese café. He also created videos and has sold many paintings.

He has created sculptures of welded bronze or aluminum and have installed them around the world, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, England, France, Germany, Israel, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Grand Cayman, Australia, Canada and almost every state in the United States.

His artwork is in many private collections, office buildings, shopping centers, homes and gardens. Corporate collections include, Bank of America, Nike, Astra Zeneca, AT&T, Pfizer, Towers-Perrin, Matrix Corp., Royal Caribbean, Comtech, Nu-Skin Corp., Western National Warranty, Citadel Equities, Jack Welch (GE), Conair, Barnes and Noble, and many more.

He also has a mobile in the Meadowbrook Care Center, and other artwork at Boston Children’s Hospital, St. Judes Children’s Hospital, Robert Wood Johnson Memorial Hospital, and Mather Memorial Hospital.

Helen A. Harrison from The New York Times writes: The wind also animates Mr. Zaluskis “Blue Cube,” with the hard-edged cube mounted in a bright red arc that seems about to swallow it.

Jaclyn J. Philips from Pulse Magazine (Dec. 2005) writes: Colors are another source of animation in his work. Either he goes for clean bright primaries -- impossible yellows, shiny reds and polished royal blues -- or he uses the metal’s natural brilliance to accept the shape of a piece; sometimes silver and gold coexist in a sculpture with equal grace, as opposed to being in conflict with each other, as is often the case. Zaluski is playful, but not childish; elegant, but not immature.

Steve lived on the north shore of Long Island, by Stony Brook for ten years and lived in New York City for two years. He currently lives on the south shore of Long Island. He enjoys his time in the Great South Bay and loves the Atlantic Ocean.
Condition
