William Mahone (1826-1895) CSA General. Mahone achieved his greatest fame in the fighting around Petersburg, when, at the Battle of the Crater, he led the counterattack that restored a badly broken Confederate line, earning the praise of Gen. Robert E. Lee. Previously Mahone had taken part in the battle of Seven Pines and the Seven Days' battles, as well as First Bull Run (at which he was wounded), Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. 12 ¼” x 8 ¼” stock certificate, the Virginia and Tennessee Rail Road Company, issued December 2, 1869, signed as president. There are six cancellation holes through the dark signature.
