DESCRIPTION: A peruvian Welsch sterling silver handcrafted hinged box embellished with a large relief decoration on the lid representing the "Lima Coat of Arms" with two headed spanish imperial eagles, three gold crowns and an eight pointed star. There is a written motto that reads in latin "Hoc signum vere regum est" (This is the true signal of the kings). The letters I and K stand for the Spanish Queen Johanna and King Carlos (Karolus). The box has a wood lined interior and is marked on the bottom with engraved hallmarks "Welsch" and "Plata Esterlina a Mano" (Sterling Silver Hand Made). Welsch & Co. was a German company that had invested into the silver trade in Lima Peru primarily in jewelry.
