Description
A lot of 4 brooches - Roman and Merovingian or Frankish. The first is a roman enameled bronze brooch, c. 2nd - 3rd Century AD, with preserved enamel and original pin and catch. L: 1 5/8 in (4.2 cm). The second is a Merovingian / Frankish silver brooch, c. 7th - 9th Century AD, with lovely style and topped by a pair of swan heads. L: 1 1/2 in (3.8 cm). Cleaned. The third an attractive open-work example, 2nd - 3rd Century AD, the body in the form of a large S, with good surfaces and original pin and catch, 3.9 x 2 cm, and the last a 1st - 2nd Century type, the body in the form of a stylized fish with wonderful patination and original pin and catch, L: 4.4 cm.
