Watson (Joseph) Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb;or a Theoretical and Practical View of the means by which they are taught to speak and understand a language, 2 vol., first edition, 80 engraved plates, the majority with several illustrations, lacking plate depicting the "Manual Alphabet", slightly offset, modern half morocco, [see note to G1026], 8vo, Darton and Harvey, 1809-1810.

***Joseph Watson joined the Old Kent Road Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb as head master in 1793. The pictorial vocabulary includes a large number of scenes of trade and commerce, household objects, and natural history subjects, and is the first to have been produced for the deaf and dumb..
