BILL HUEBBE Lot 2 Monkey in Jacket Candelabras, inscription to underside of jacket reads ‘HUEBBE’, wooden statue, verso reads ‘HUEBBE 1987’, subject a pair of standing monkeys with a candleholder in each hand both wearing red and gold toned jackets, each measure 17 x 13 x 9 inches, surface wear to piece. Born in 1929, Bill Huebbe was largely inspired by the 1930s growing up. Globally this period can be best characterised by the conflict between the world’s predominant political philosophies - Marxist Socialism, Capitalist Democracy, and the Totalitarianism of both Communism and Fascism. n Europe, Surrealism continued to be the leading artistic trend; a kind of expression and school of thought that by this time had spread across the globe.
