Description
1692 1ed Almanac Merlinus Liberatus Occult Astrology Protestant John Partridge
John Partridge was a 17th-century English astrologer who is best remembered for his ‘Merlinus Liberatus’ – an almanac periodical that described astrological occurrences and occult tendencies. This work was regularly published well into the 18th-century, providing readers with predictions, many of which, curiously, were written with a substantial Protestant leaning. This proved to be the undoing for Partridge as James II converted to Catholicism, making Partridge seek refuge in Holland to avoid Catholic backlash.
This 1692 edition of Partridge’s ‘Merlinus Liberatus Almanack’ contains, like many almanacs, phases of the moon, weather patterns, and the like, but also notes on deaths, crimes committed, and politically-charged poems.
