Willem Hendrik Nieupoort , also known by the Latinized name Neoportus , ( 1670 - 1730 approximately), was a lawyer and Old Dutch , specialist ancient history
Nieupoort was professor of ancient history at the University of Utrecht . He is the author of the Rituum romanorum explicatio (1712, translated into French by Abbot Desfontaines in 1741 ), and of a Historia reipublicae et imperii Romanorum ex monumentis (1723). The first of these works has long been considered a classic of the subject.
