Item/Description: Color woodblock print. Artist's signature and stamp lower left. "Kyoto Omuro no Sakura." The cherry blossoms and a pagoda at Ninnaji Temple. Ninnaji is a large temple which belongs to the Shingon sect. Its five-story pagoda is the National Treasure of Japan. The temple ground has hundreds of cherry trees.
Benji Asada (1899-1984) was a painter and printmaker from Kyoto. Named Nakanishi Benji at birth, he took the surname Asada in 1927 in honor of two artists of that name whom he admired: one a Japanese-style painter and the other Western-style.
Material: Print framed under glass. Faux bamboo wood frame.
Dimensions: Image size: Height: 14"; Width: 9". Framed: Height: 22 1/4"; Width: 16 1/4".
Condition: Wear, warping.
Age: Late 19th / Early 20th Century.
