GEORGIAN MAHOGANY BREAKFRONT BOOKCASE WITH MAP, of monumental proportions. The top having a stepped cornice with lower dentil course above a blind fretwork frieze, two hinged doors flanking a central sliding door, each set with nine panes, opening to adjustable shelves. The base featuring a central cabinet door flanked to each side by a stack of four graduated drawers and a single drawer above cabinet door. Cornice fitted with a large roll-out map titled "Map exhibiting the great post roads, physical and political divisions of Europe : from original materials collected from the different countries delineated / by A. Arrowsmith / MDCCCX" that is accessed by a slot below the dentil molding. Late 18th/early 19th century. 102 1/2" H, 114" W, 25" D.

Very good overall condition, top with moderate chip to lower edge of proper left end, some scarring to bed molding, minor losses to moldings, small areas of usage wear and scratches, drawer faces show evidence of single knob. Map in fair condition with losses.
