KIRK & SON AND OTHER STERLING, COIN, AND OTHER SILVER OPEN SALTS AND SALT SPOONS, LOT OF 13, (updated 10/12/21) sterling pieces comprising a plain open salt and two "Old Maryland Plain" salt spoons by S. Kirk & Son of Baltimore, MD, a pair of pedestal open salts by Barbour Silver Co. of Hartford and Meriden, CT and retailed by C. Lumsden & Son of Richmond, VA with cobalt blue glass liners, an open salt by Dominick & Haff of New York City, NY with reticulated sides and a colorless cut glass liner, and four pieces by Gorham Mfg. Co. of Providence, RI of two salt spoons in the "H205" and "H157" patterns, a Neoclassical-style open salt with angular handles and a 1901 date mark, and a reticulated Arabesque-patterned open salt featuring faun figures and a cobalt blue glass liner; also including a coin silver salt spoon by South Carolina maker J.E. Spear & Co. of Charleston, a coin silver salt spoon with unidentified "E.D" maker's mark, and an unmarked pedestal open salt with unknown silver/metal content; some pieces with personalized engravings. Most with maker's marks, sterling pieces marked for silver fineness. Total weight excluding glass liners: 8.470 ozt. 19th/first half 20th century. Open salts 1 1/4" to 1 7/8" HOA.
Condition
Good to very good overall condition with minor to moderate wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including bending, dents, nicks, and/or worn spots to decoration; most liners with flakes and/or chips, notably to colorless liner.
