Description
Carved wood with a dramatic red organic pigment and attached raffia grass. Such aggressive masks were worn during the Ibuku initiation and considered the most senior of all masks. Owned by accomplished warriors, mukinka masks are worn during special ceremonies such as funerals and ceremonial dances. Salampasu peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. The wooden mask itself measures 11.5 x 7.5 inches. A metal display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00. Provenance: The Carl and Wilma Zabel collection, 1980's.
