Item Details

Description

Attributed to Herter Brothers (German/American, active 1864-1906) or Pottier & Stymus Manufacturing Company (American, active 1859-1910), third quarter 19th century. Victorian era carved ebonized settee, having a shaped foliate decorated crest with griffins centering on an anthemion, upholstered in a chinoiserie patterned fabric after Schumacher's "Jester Caprice", button tufted back, upswept griffin-form arm supports, and rising on front paw feet with casters. No apparent visible marks. Approx. h. 44", w. 59.75", d. 25".

Condition

Repaired of of moulding to right leg; no apparent stains or tears to upholstery; very minor scattered chips to finish; frame is structurally sound.
