Description
John Rogers (American, 1829-1904). "The Council of War" -1868, painted plaster. Impressed signature in base under Lincoln's leg, patent and date on rear of base, and titled on front of base. Note: This "Rogers Group" depicts President Abraham Lincoln, General Ulysses Grant and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Three versions of this plaster exist. This is the second version with Stanton cleaning his glasses over Lincoln's left shoulder. Approx. h. 24"
Condition
Scattered chips, especially on the base and folds of the standing men's coats. Scattered losses.
