Regency Polychrome- and Gilt-Decorated Tôle Tray
First quarter 19th century
Centered by a scene in the manner of Angelica Kaufmann depicting a seated mother with two children, the everted edge with a running border of acroteria and oak leaves; the back with white-painted accession 'U79.45a'. 21 x 28 1/2 inches (53.3 x 72.4 cm).

Provenance:
Sotheby's, New York, The Estate of Martha Phillips, April 24-25, 1997, lot 588.

Martha Phillips was a noted fashion icon whose shop 'Martha' on Park Avenue was a luxury fashion retail store for more than 60 years. She was an early supporter of many leading designers, including Valentino, Halston, Geoffrey Beene, James Galanos, Pauline Trigère, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta and Zandra Rhodes at the beginning of their careers.
