For your consideration is a stunning pair of signed parcel gilt Baccarat "Sauterelle" or grasshopper vases. These vases were manufactured by Baccarat circa 1878 and are rare forms. This beautiful set has a satinated glass background allowing the unfrosted grasshopper and surrounding foliage to catch light effortlessly. The grasshopper's is further brought to life by the addition of both gold and purple iridescent staining and red, hand-applied enamel work on the antennae, eyes and just behind the head. Each vase is marked with an in-mold raised "Baccarat" mark seen most easily in the center underside of each vase. Each vase also sits perfectly in it more recent custom lucite stand. Without the stand, each vase measures just under 8 1/2" in height, is 4 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" deep. Each vase weighs 2 pounds, 5.4 ounces. An identical pair of these vases is in the permanent collection at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
