Description

US Civil War Non-Regulation Officer's Sword with Scabbard

33" near mint blade, iron mounted sword with shagreen handle that is retaining its wires. An attractive yet functional officer's sword features a prominent, cutout eagle and US in 4-branch iron guard. The iron guard, back strap and pommel are still mostly bright, with ca 20% turning age brown. The shark skin grip is tight and intact, with 100% triple-wrap wire. The 33" single-edged blade is bright and virtually like new, with no rust, no pitting, no nicks and no age darkening. Etched in blade is typical scrollwork, U.S., American eagle and E. Pluribus Unum. On spine of blade Iron Proof. The iron scabbard is solid, with no dents or dings and ca 50% bright, 50% age brown. A fine example of a popular import sword. [See Peterson, 1954: 75].
