For your consideration is a fine Chinese carnelian belt hook magnifying glass. Handle has a phoenix form belt hook measuring 3 1/4" which is mounted in sterling silver. The sterling silver handle brace continues to form the frame surrounding the looking glass. The sterling silver frame is designed with alternating floral and bamboo motifs and contains mounted natural jadeite and tourmaline cabochons on both sides. There are (2) sterling silver bat-shaped braces that join the handle and looking glass frame. The backside of the handle is marked "Made in China" and "Silver" - a mark commonly seen in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The magnifier measures 6" in length with the looking glass portion having a diameter of 2 3/4". The looking glass weighs 3 ounces. This magnifier has stron symbolic references to longevity, rebirth and prosperity.
