Description
4 Bolivian and Peruvian Textiles. Including: 1)Mantle, Nazca Culture, c.200-600 CE, Peru. Large (3'x5’), three selvedged indigo alpaca mantle with extraneous threads. Formerly would have had a knit figural border; 2) Tunic fragment, Nazca Culture, c.400-800 CE, Peru. Piece of a solid cochineal red tunic woven in warp faced alpaca such as later Aymara textiles; 3) Aymara Tunic, c.1200-1600 CE, Altiplano, Bolivian; simple striped small man's shirt, along with his mantle; 4) Ursus Culture Tunic, c.1200-1600 CE, Lake Titicaca, Bolivia. Soft vicuna fiber tunic of this now extinct culture absorbed by their Aymara neighbors. Cut bottom. Provenance: ex Jean Lions Collection, Geneva, Switzerland (1951-1980). Ranging in Size from: 20.5'' x 19'' (52 x 48 cm) to 56'' x 40'' (142 x 102 cm).
