Publisher:Apex Novelties
Date Published: April-May, 1968
Description:

Fine/VF (7.0). Cream to off-white pages. Clean and flat with a touch of spine stress and edge of centerfold slightly protruding. Robert Crumb cover and art. Second printing with correct issue points as noted in Jay Kennedy's Official Underground and Newave Comix Price Guide: "Has a $.35 cover price and says 'Printed by Don Donohue' on the back cover." SIGNED by R. Crumb in bottom margin of cover and dated 2016. Provenance: From the Collection of Mike Britt, fanzine publisher and longtime friend of R. Crumb.

Copies of ZAP #1 signed by Crumb are uncommon (GPAnalysis.com only records two Signature Series examples, including a 1st printing sold by PBA last year for a world-record $27,500). This example was consigned by Crumb's pal Mike Britt, and includes a provenance note:

"Robert signed this copy during one of his several visits to my home in the Pacific Northwest during the past decade. I have known Robert Crumb since the first day of the eighth grade in 1956 in Milford, Delaware. We were comic book nerds back then and now, over sixty years later we are still having the same conversation about comics as we did back then. I was fortunate to have three pages of my work in the first issue of the Crumb Brothers FOO published in 1958. Rest assured, this is an authentic R. Crumb signature. [Signed] Mike Britt, April 12, 2021."

A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.

Consignments welcome for PBA's December 2021 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Send inquiries to ivan@pbagalleries.com.
