Seven page story titled "I Was A Teenage BEATNIK," written and drawn by Bill Griffith in pen and ink on bristol board, occasional Zip-a-Tone and photostats, some corrections in white paint, signed and dated by Griffith on the first page. 10x15". Very fine condition, marginal notes in pencil in Griffith's hand, marginal fingermarks, some offsetting to versos from pasted photostats. Provenance: From the collection of Water Row Press publisher Jeffrey Weinberg.
Zippy the Pinhead becomes a Beatnik in this seven page story, published as the eighth chapter of Bill Griffith's "Are We Having Fun Yet? Zippy the Pinhead's 29 Day Guide to Random Activities and Arbitrary Donuts" (Fantagraphics: 1985). After a debauched Beat experience leaves the normally zen-like pinhead confused and alarmed, Zippy shaves his goatee and departs for South Dakota, where he hopes to experience a purifying ritual of suffering at a local Sizzler.
