For your consideration is a stunning Tibetan or Nepalese dhakya lidded teacup and stand made of silver, spinach jade and coral. The piece was purchased by its previous owner in 1961 while visiting Katmandu and the interior top portion of the stand carries a hand inscribed mark. The hand-chased repousse designs are exquisite and show traditional motifs to include monkey, elephants, birds and other auspicious symbols. The jade cups is very well carved and has fantastic coloration that is consistent throughout. When held to the light, the cup is translucent and it is cold to the prolonged touch. When assembled the dhakya measures 7" in height with a base diameter of 4 1/4". The jade cup alone measures 2 3/8" in height and is 2 3/4" in diameter at its rim. The coral bead measures 1/2" in length and has a diameter of 3/8". The complete set weighs just over 10 ounces. This piece likely was manufactured in the mid- to late- 19th Century. Original note left by previous owner reads "Jade Cup with Stand (and) Stand / Bought in Katmandu 1961".

Item is in excellent condition with no missing pieces or repairs. we have not polished this offering and will leave that to the discretion and expertise of the winning bidder. Silver portions do show some wear commensurate with age and appropriate use. Jade cup in excellent condition with no noticeable damage or repairs.
