Description
1853 Key to Uncle Toms Cabin Harriet Beecher Stowe Slavery Abolition UKed

No other work of literature helped lay the groundwork for the American Civil War quite like Harriet Beecher Stowes Uncle Toms Cabin. In turn, many historians have credited this novel with being the contributing factor to the Civil War. This incredible story portrays slave families being torn apart through being sold and resold by slave masters.

Uncle Toms Cabin was met with resounding responses – both positive and negative. In 1853, the year following the first appearance, Stowe published a supplement to Uncle Toms entitled The Key to Uncle Toms Cabin. This work was Stowes own response to the criticism she received regarding her anti-slavery masterpiece.
