Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 200 BCE; Mexico, Los Castillo, ca. 1939 to 1962 CE. A beautiful necklace comprised of Los Castillo silverplate beads and ancient Mezcala greenstone beads. The 7 greenstone beads are made by ancient Mezcala artisans; each hand pecked and polished into barrel shapes. The rest of the strand is strung with 50 spherical and tubular silverplate beads. These silverplate beads are all from the 20th century and are made by Los Castillo. The necklace is pleasingly strung in a symmetrical fashion, with the greenstones evenly dispersed along the strand. The necklace is wearable and has an ovoid box clasp, which is stamped "Los Castillo Plateado." Size of strand: 20" L (50.8 cm); largest greenstone: 1" L x 1" W (2.5 cm x 2.5 cm); silverplate quality: 10% to 17%

Greenstone is ancient and silverplate beads are from the 20th century. Some wear and losses to silver plating. Minor indentations and perforation to seams on the silverplate beads, all are stable and secure on the strand. One greenstone has a pinhole perforation. Minor nicks and abrasions to others, but all are otherwise intact and very good. Necklace is wearable with a push clasp.
