Dallas based Braniff International Airways that was in business in 1928-1982, commissioned Alexander Calder to paint Douglas DC-8-62 airliner as a flying canvas. Models of the aircraft sent to Calder at his studio in France in November of 1972. Braniff announced the Calder collaboration to the public on June 4, 1973.
Published by Atelier Fernand Mourlot, Paris for Braniff in 1975, in a set of six comprising The Flying Colors Suite, distributed to upper management in commemoration of this historic project.
