Tekke Main carpet, 4 x 10 guls, Turkmenistan, early/mid-19th century. A fine Tekke Main carpet with large primary guls and distinctive kurbaghe secondary ornaments. The vaunted Tekke weaving and dyeing skills show through in this glowing carpet with most of its original kilim ends and a lot of design variety in the borders, all signs of good age. Exhibited: "Masterpieces of Turkmen Weaving," Arthur Ross Gallery, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, 2003. Size: 6'6'' x 8'10'' (198 x 269 cm). Weight: 17 lbs. Material: wool pile, wool warp, wool weft. Provenance: Leigh Marsh Collection.
