Description
Luristan, northwest Iran, Ca 1000 to 600 AD. Ritual finial in 2 parts representing the "master of the animals" in this ancient Iranian culture. Each section in cast bronze, top with multiple janiform heads and holding beasts at bay with each hand. Lower section comprised of rounded socket and single pick which holds the upper section in place, surmounted by a reel-shaped finial, on a tapering bell-shaped stand. 12"H.
