J. D. BROWN PIERCED SHEET IRON WHALE OIL LANTERN, worn black paint, bail handle, star-pierced base with maker's brass plate marked "J. D. BROWN PATENT MAY. 29. 1860.", fixed colorless globe, removable base with bayonet mechanism and fitted with a colorless font, No. 1 fine line collar. Fitted with a brass and tin double-tube burner. Third quarter 19th century. 18 7/8" HOA, 14 1/2" H to top of cap, 6 1/4" D base.
Provenance: The Phillip M. Sullivan estate collection.
Fair condition, some expected light rust, base and font with possible alterations, font lacking holder and clip resulting in holder attached to base air screen, globe undamaged. Burner with some minor imperfections.
